Warning for scammers!
Police have received several calls about attempts at elderly crime in the eastern region today. There have been several cases in Södermanland today, and before that also cases in the Stockholm area. Police are warning of caution as it is very likely that the problem will continue south through the country in the coming days.
The method is that the person calls up elderly people and says they are calling from the police and that there has been a break-in in the area where you live.
They then want to know if the person is at home and often offer to come and take care of valuable items to prevent theft. Sometimes they also claim to be from an insurance company to pick up jewelry and other belongings.
The method can vary slightly, but it is roughly similar stories in the current cases that have come in today.
This is a scam! Be aware that the police will not come and pick up valuable items under the pretext of protecting the person from break-ins. Nor do they contact via the phone to warn of previous break-ins in the area as in this case.
If the police go out with current warnings, it is mainly done via the police's social media, polisen.se and via public spokespersons.
If you receive a call from a stranger, hang up the phone and call and report if you have been a victim of a scam attempt.
