Law student, part-time job

Cigarrklubben is a private members’ club for cigar enthusiasts, and our core business is a long way from Chesterfield sofas and velvet-red walls. Instead, we are immersed in the law.
We are skilled in administrative law and win nearly 80% of our cases under the Public Access to Information and Secrecy Act (OSL), for example. When we do not, we are constantly giving public authorities a dressing-down.
As if that were not enough, we are pursuing several high-profile cases. We are currently in the Court of Appeal in a damages case against a municipality (we are the claimant), and have just received the Court of Appeal’s approval to appeal in another case at the Patent and Market Court of Appeal (PMÖD), concerning the marketing of tobacco, where we are once again the claimant. We have a real chance of getting a case before the Supreme Court (HD), a full 10% instead of the usual 2%. Here too, we are the claimant.
We are looking for someone with a genuine interest in law. You are studying law (this is a requirement). Smoking cigars is not an advantage, quite the opposite. Depending on your skills, you will assist with various legal tasks, from dull, monotonous work to more complex matters. If it turns out that you know something better than we do, you will be given greater responsibility in that area.
We operate in a complex legal framework and work according to strict procedures. It is important that you are willing to follow instructions and do not have an impulse to react. Your most important quality is being able to take a step back when you are unsure and find out the correct information rather than trying to solve the task on the spot. You enjoy taking direction and do not feel constrained if you are not allowed to colour outside the lines.
The only time we prioritise speed over quality is when there is a fire (not a crisis, but when you need to call 112).
You are therefore comfortable with not having the full picture or all the variables, and you are encouraged to take your time when making decisions. It is part of our DNA.
The reason is simple: we operate in a complex legal framework. Legislators did not consider that businesses like ours might exist, and to add insult to injury, we have a number of different civil law agreements that restrict us in one way or another. We do not shoot from the hip. We work calmly and methodically.
We expect you to be studying at a higher education institution, and studying law is essential. As we mentioned earlier, smoking cigars is no advantage at all. We do not want any overlap between staff and potential customers or members.
A word of warning to young people born around the turn of the millennium. If you are someone who sees a career ahead of you at one of Sweden’s most prestigious firms, but also talks about work-life balance, wants a ball pit in the office and other nonsense, you are in for a rude awakening. When we work, we work. The stakes are high, the pressure is considerable and there is little margin for error. We are extremely clear: you will know whether we are happy with your work, and if you have made the right assessment but things have gone badly, you will absolutely get support. If you rush through your work or think deadlines are merely a suggestion, you will soon find out that this is not appreciated.
If you are the type of student who emails a lecturer to ask to submit a take-home exam on another day because you have other things to do, do not even bother applying.
We have had law students work with us before and have been very pleased. It has been a good platform for recent graduates before moving on to become student employees at a larger firm over the summer.

We are by no means a gentlemen’s club and are not particularly fond of laddish behaviour. Your personality as an applicant is what matters. Your gender is not.
We do not receive visitors. Applications delivered in person will be discarded. We also do not respond to applications that do not meet the formal requirements (you can work out for yourself what an application should contain as a minimum). Applications that do not meet our requirements go straight in the bin, without a reply. This also applies to applications written using AI.
Have you had what is often called a “crap job” when you were young? Good! That is an advantage.
