Before Friday's lunch, the presidents took a walk among rose bushes in the walled, heavily guarded Zhongnanhai government residence near the Forbidden City.
"We've made some great trade deals that are good for both countries," Trump told reporters after the walk, claiming they "solved a lot of different problems."
Xi was more subdued, but said the two leaders had reached a new “constructive relationship,” which he described as a milestone.
Trump was impressed by the roses in the garden, according to reporters on site. Xi therefore offered to send Trump seeds of the Chinese roses.
"Wonderful, that sounds great," Trump replied.
The delegations from each country then sat down for a closed-door lunch. On the menu: seafood chowder, deep-fried lobster balls, Kung Pao chicken, ice cream and chocolate brownie. Just over two hours later, Trump was seen boarding Air Force One to travel back to the United States.
During Wednesday's initial meetings, the two leaders were said to have discussed a range of important issues, including Taiwan, trade and the war in Iran. According to Trump, he and Xi agree on how they want the war to end, that the Strait of Hormuz must be reopened, and that Iran must not have nuclear weapons.
However, few concrete results have been presented, apart from a Chinese purchase of 200 American Boeing planes.
The American president has invited his Chinese counterpart to Washington, D.C., on September 24.
