"Now 70,000 wildlife accidents per year are becoming the new normal. Just ten years ago it was completely unthinkable. Now 2026 looks like it will be the third year in a row over the tragic threshold," says Jacob Sidenvall, traffic safety expert at the Swedish National Association of Wildlife Conservation, in a press release.
The National Association also warns that the coming months are historically likely to be very accident-prone.
"It is in September that wildlife accidents increase. The animals' movement patterns change and we see that the accidents are increasing," says Jacob Sidenvall.
