Countries that have already negotiated trade agreements with the US where pharmaceuticals are included are not affected by the new 100-percent tariffs on patented pharmaceuticals.
This means that tariffs on pharmaceuticals from the EU will be limited to 15 percent, in accordance with the terms of the existing framework agreement. The same arrangement applies to Japan, according to the White House.
Among others, the United Kingdom is at risk, however, of getting a tariff increase of 100 percent. London and Washington have indeed negotiated a trade agreement, but have not yet agreed on a tariff level for pharmaceuticals.
