Sales in the daily goods trade increased by 3.0 percent in May this year compared to the same month last year. However, the inflation for food and non-alcoholic beverages amounted to 5.2 percent and the sales trend is thus estimated to be -2.2 percent, according to the industry organization Swedish Daily Goods Trade's Daily Goods Index.
The food price inflation has stabilized during the spring and in combination with a strengthened Swedish krona, it gives positive signals to both customers and the industry, according to Karin Brynell, CEO of Swedish Daily Goods Trade.
Sales in e-commerce and home delivery have increased more, by 4.1 and 4.3 percent respectively. However, e-commerce is expected to decrease during the summer.
"Then more people are away and shop to a greater extent in stores”, says Karin Brynell in a press release.
