So far this year, eighty people have fallen ill with salmonella after eating raw Ukrainian eggs in various dishes, according to the National Food Agency in a press release. The latest case involves restaurant guests who were infected by bearnaise sauce.
Those who have fallen ill are believed to have eaten loose-boiled eggs or non-heated eggs in, for example, mayonnaise, bearnaise sauce, skagenröra, and pasta carbonara.
The eggs are said to have been sold to both private individuals in stores that do not belong to the larger chains and to restaurants.
The Ukrainian eggs are said to have been analyzed on several occasions without detecting salmonella.
The National Food Agency's recommendation has long been not to eat raw eggs from countries other than Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Denmark.
