As of May 15, 808 cases have been confirmed and 192 deaths have been reported, according to the latest figures from the World Health Organization (WHO). The G7 countries are calling for a coordinated effort to stop the spread.
The International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) is warning of a worsening crisis in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
"We fear that this could last for a year before the epidemic is over," said Bruno Michon, IFRC's operations manager in Bunia.
Doctors Without Borders and Oxfam also warn that the full scope is unclear. The outbreak has spread to Uganda, with 19 cases and two deaths.
Conflicts, mass displacement and a weak healthcare system are making the response more difficult. There is also a lack of vaccines approved for this virus strain.
