At the close, the Dow Jones Industrial Average had increased 0.7 percent, the broad S&P 500 index - which was at a new record high during the trading day - ended up 0.8 percent, while the technology-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index gained 1 percent, also breaking records there.
Chipmaker Intel, which rose sharply in connection with last week's report, surged just over 12 percent after reports that it may be on the verge of an agreement with Apple.
The prospects for an end to the war in Iran remain bleak, but the stock market seems to have taken note of Pete Hegseth's words on Tuesday that the ceasefire "is not over."
The price of oil has fallen slightly in the past 24 hours; at 10 p.m., a barrel of North Sea oil cost around $110.
