The Swedish e-scooter company Voi has had enough of London's tough regulations, reports Dagens Industri. In a letter to Mayor Sadiq Khan, Voi's CEO Fredrik Hjelm writes that the company believes the situation in the British capital is economically unsustainable.
The reasons are several: London has stricter rules regarding speed and age than the national guidelines in the UK, only 9 of 33 boroughs allow the mode of transport. According to the letter, there are also a lack of parking spaces and a hard competition with the city's e-bikes that do not have the same regulations.
In the letter, Hjelm writes that Voi would be happy to cooperate with London's transport authorities to solve the problems, but otherwise may be forced to leave the city.
Last March, the e-scooter company Dott made the decision to leave, despite the company, together with Voi and Lime, having a monopoly on e-scooters in London last summer.
Christina Moe Gjerde, head of Northern Europe at Voi, writes in an email to DI that London is lagging behind with too strict regulations.
"London should look at cities like Oslo and Stockholm, which have dared to adjust their regulatory models when it didn't work the first time."
