Incidents of violence and threats between placed children and young people decreased by 26 percent last year – from 481 reported incidents to 357.

Violence and threats directed at employees decreased during the same period from 2,517 reported incidents to 1,968, which is a decrease of 22 percent.

Sis youth care director Birgitta Dahlberg attributes the decrease to the agency's work on safety and security.

"New legislation and security classification of youth homes have contributed, but I particularly want to highlight the efforts of our employees. It is their diligence in daily life and ability to build good relationships that lay the foundation for a safe environment in our youth homes", says Dahlberg in a press release.

At the same time, the number of young people running away from Sis homes has more than halved in two years – from 420 to 171 last year, which TT was able to report last week.

Sis claims that it has in principle stopped criminal boys from running away or being released to commit new violent crimes.
