Valentin Vacherot was the best in the family meeting with his cousin Arthur Rinderknech and made history. The 204th-ranked Monegasque became the lowest-ranked player to win a Masters 1,000 tournament on the tennis tour.

I cry, it's not true what just happened. I don't keep up, says Vacherot minutes after he scored the match ball and won the ATP tournament in Shanghai.

The final figures against cousin Arthur Rinderknech, the 30-year-old who is ranked number 54, were written to 4–6, 6–3, 6–3.

I think there are two winners today and it was a family that won. For the sport of tennis, this story is unreal, says Vacherot.

The Masters 1,000 tournaments on the ATP tour are the second highest level, just below the four Grand Slam tournaments.

The 26-year-old from Monaco had never won an ATP tournament and qualified for the tournament.

He beat the 24-time Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic, Serbia, in a heroic semifinal to reach the final. Rinderknech also won surprisingly in the semifinal when he defeated the four-time Grand Slam finalist Daniil Medvedev.

It's only my fourth season on the tour. I think about all the work I've put in. To win today is completely crazy, I can't believe it's true, says Vacherot.

Vacherot will thanks to the victory take a giant leap in the ranking to a top 50 spot.
