The sale to the USA corresponded to 11 percent of the total fish and shellfish export from Norway during the period, which amounted to a record high of 44 billion Norwegian kronor.
The increase in exports is believed to be partly due to fish and shellfish companies in the USA stockpiling extensively ahead of the 15 percent tariffs imposed on products from Norway.
Norway produces nearly half of the world's farmed salmon. The cultivation conditions in the sea and in the fjords are considered ideal and are difficult to replicate in other places in the world.
In total, Norway exported more than 285,000 tons of salmon during the first quarter, of which around 22,000 tons were sent to the USA.
