On Thursday, SMHI issued a yellow warning for strong winds in Eastern Svealand. This means a risk of, among other things, fallen trees and traffic disruptions.

For a yellow warning, winds of at least 21 meters per second are required. Such strong winds are unusual in the summer and only occur briefly in connection with thunderstorms, says Therese Fougman at SMHI.

Yesterday's strong winds, however, lasted longer than that – in several places, it blew strongly both in the afternoon and evening.

In Karlsborg in Västra Götaland, winds of 22 meters per second were measured, and in both Sörmland and Östergötland, winds of around 20 meters per second were measured, which caused trees to fall, says Therese Fougman.

To be classified as a storm, the average wind speed must be at least 24.5 meters per second, which was reached in at least Tullinge in Stockholm County, where wind forces of 25 meters per second were measured.

It is not yet known if any wind records have been broken.

The rescue service in Stockholm County received many alarms, mainly about trees that had fallen over roads.

It was fully busy during the evening and night. Now in the morning, we have had two cases to take care of, says Lena Hoffman, control operator at the Rescue Service.

According to Sweden's Radio P4 Stockholm, it is about a total of 300 alarms, which is several times more than usual.
