"The data obtained so far from the wreck shows it contains unique historical and archaeological information," says marine archaeologist Lars Einarsson at Kalmar County Museum in a press release.
The find was made last fall. A care and protection plan is being developed jointly by the museum and the Armed Forces. During the investigation, the discovery site is being monitored by the Coast Guard and the crew of HMS Belos.
For the navy, the operation provides an opportunity to train the ship's crew to use sonars and remotely piloted vehicles, for example.
