In October last year, Stegra announced that the start of production had been postponed by about three months to early 2027 - and in April, Stegra stated that the schedule was “under review”.
What applies now is unclear.
"We are not commenting on that, but we are now working on ramping up productivity from a lower level at the construction site. Only after that will we communicate a plan with our customers and our other closest stakeholders," says Hallstan.
She does not want to say whether the old plan is still valid.
No, it's all related. We'll provide a timeline when we have the opportunity to do so.
There is no timetable right now?
Of course it does, but it's not something we're going to comment on.
Announcement this fall
The steelmaker plans to update its customers on the production plan later this year.
During the autumn - to our closest stakeholders, confirms Karin Hallstan.
On April 14, Stegra announced that it had raised 1.4 billion euros in a financing round. Wallenberg Investments contributed 250 million euros and stated that they will take a “leading position” in Stegra going forward.
"After a period of lower activity during the financing round, Stegra will now increase the pace of construction. The project's schedule is currently under review," Stegra wrote in connection with the financing.
Since then, Stegra has begun recruiting more contractors.
"You have to admit that this is a large and complex exercise when we go from a few thousand construction workers on site to quite a few more," says Karin Hallstan.
Wallenberg kept quiet
Wallenberg Investments refers questions about production to Stegra.
When TT interviewed Jacob Wallenberg, vice chairman of Wallenberg Investments and chairman of Investor, last month, he did not give any concrete details about the start of production.
"I can't say that. It's in line with the plans that have been in place. I won't give any exact dates here."
He explained why the Wallenberg Circle is investing in the company.
"Because we believe it's a good business model, we believe there are good conditions, and we believe it's important for Sweden."
