The court in Stuttgart, Germany, sentenced the man to 15 months in prison, but as he has been in custody since May 2025, he will now be released on bail.

The man is said to have spied on behalf of Russia and helped prepare sabotage against Ukrainian infrastructure and transport.

Two more Ukrainian citizens who were charged in the same case have been acquitted. According to the prosecution, the three planned to place explosive packages on freight transport in Germany, which would later explode on the way to Ukraine.

During the war, Moscow has been accused of a long series of sabotage and attack plans in Europe. Earlier in August, an explosive-laden drone was found near Ukrainian cargo planes in Leipzig, Germany.
