Britain's Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner is leaving her post after making a mistake with taxes in an apartment deal. An independent investigation has found that Rayner breached the ethical rules that apply to ministers.
Rayner herself admits that she did not pay enough tax in connection with the deal last summer. She acted in good faith, but should have sought more advanced tax advice, according to the investigation she refers to.
"I take full responsibility for this mistake", Rayner writes in her resignation letter to Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
Reports have suggested that Rayner saved 40,000 pounds – just over 500,000 Swedish kronor – by not paying the correct stamp duty on the housing deal.
