The Court of Appeal upholds the life sentence for a 22-year-old man who has been convicted of aiding and abetting the murder of the rap artist C Gambino. Another man is sentenced to 16 years in prison – but a third defendant is fully acquitted.

The acclaimed rapper C Gambino, who performed with a face mask, had recently received a Grammis for hip-hop of the year 2023. Less than a month later, on June 4 last year, he was shot to death in a parking garage in Hisings Backa in Gothenburg.

Last summer, several men were convicted for their involvement – however, no one was convicted of the actual murder.

Nor does the Court of Appeal for Western Sweden convict anyone of murder, but confirms the life sentence against a 22-year-old man for aiding and abetting the murder. At the same time, the sentence for a 20-year-old man is tightened by half a year.

He is now sentenced to 16 years in prison for aiding and abetting murder and for having set fire to the getaway car together with a 19-year-old, who was previously sentenced to ten months in prison.

A 21-year-old who was convicted of aiding and abetting murder by the district court is, however, completely acquitted.

Exactly why C Gambino, who according to the investigation was not active in any criminal network himself, became a target is unclear. The police's theory is, however, that the murder is linked to the long-standing conflict between two criminal gangs in Biskopsgården.

This year, two double murders and another fatal shooting have occurred in Gothenburg, which are believed to be linked to the conflict. It has also spread to Stockholm in the form of, among other things, threats, extortion, and a bombing against a senior executive at the record company giant Warner Music, which has released C Gambino's music.
