Late on the evening of April 14 last year, two men aged 20–25 were shot to death in a parking lot in Biskopsgården.
The double murder is believed to be linked to the long-standing gang conflict in the district. According to prosecutor Ulrika Åberg, the shooter may have actually been after a third man, who was shot at but not hit.
"That's one of our hypotheses. Three people were shot, of whom only one, the survivor, is considered to have connections to the conflict environment," she says.
"But we can't say for sure, other than that it is directed at these three people."
More involved
The two men who are now being charged were arrested three days after the shooting.
A 24-year-old is being charged with the two murders and the attempted murder of the man who survived, while a 22-year-old who is suspected of providing the weapon is being charged with, among other things, aiding and abetting the murders and the attempted murder.
"It is quite obvious that there are more people involved, but we do not know who they are yet. Among other things, there are aliases used in chats that have not yet been cracked in the investigation," says Ulrika Åberg.
Long-standing conflict
The gang conflict in Biskopsgården has been going on since 2012 and has led to a long series of shootings and other acts of violence.
On September 2 last year, another double murder occurred, in Lunden in eastern Gothenburg. The suspected shooter was arrested overnight in Oslo. According to prosecutor Karin Lindell, the man will likely be charged in the spring.
A murder a few days later, in Tolered on Hisingen, is also believed to be linked to the same conflict.
