After the New York Stock Exchange closed on Thursday, Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social that he was postponing attacks on Iran's energy infrastructure for ten days, until April 6.
Oil prices have continued to weigh on markets. Earlier on Thursday, North Sea oil (Brent) futures had risen 5.5 percent, to nearly $108 per barrel.
After Trump's announcement, the price fell, but slowly and unevenly. After just over an hour, the price was at $106.6 per barrel and the day's increase had slowed slightly, to 4.3 percent.
U.S. WTI was trading at $94.5 per barrel after a 4.6 percent increase on the day.
