Iran has cut off all diplomatic contact with the United States, The Wall Street Journal reports, citing Iranian sources. However, the newspaper states that Iran is still participating in talks through the mediator, Pakistan. At the same time, The New York Times reports that Iran has also suspended all negotiations through mediators.
It is clear, however, that Iran has reacted to Donald Trump's statement that "an entire civilization will die tonight."
"I don't want it to happen," Trump wrote on Truth Social, but then added that it "probably will happen."
Trump further calls tonight's deadline, which he himself set for Iran, one of the "most important moments in world history."
The president also describes it as the country having undergone a regime change, where "smarter and less radicalized" people have taken over, and says that something revolutionary and "wonderful can happen."
"We will find out tonight," he writes further.
The deadline is about Trump wanting to make a deal with Iran, and if one is not reached, he has threatened to bomb the country "back to the Stone Age."
At the same time, the US and Israel have continued to attack Iran, striking military targets on the key oil island of Kharg, and civilian infrastructure such as bridges and highways in several places in Iran.
