The US Finance Minister Scott Bessent and China's Vice Premier He Lifeng will meet during a two-day meeting in Stockholm. Outside Rosenbad in central Stockholm, several international media have gathered and the police have set up fences around the building.

In addition, parts of central Stockholm are being monitored by drones until Wednesday and many police cars were seen circulating in the area on Monday.

Sweden a good place

China's Vice Premier He Lifeng arrived at Rosenbad at 2 pm, and the American delegation arrived shortly thereafter. Both were met by Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, who conversed for a while with Scott Bessent before they went inside.

Sweden is a good place for this type of dialogue, said Carl Bergkvist, chief economist at the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce, ahead of the meeting which he believes strengthens Sweden's already existing brand as a good place for international talks.

Just as positive was the US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer.

We enter the negotiations with a strong hand, after having concluded agreements with the EU, Japan and several others, he said to the American MSNBC earlier on Monday.

Trump: Close to an agreement

The US President Donald Trump says that the US is close to an agreement with China ahead of today's meeting.

We have more or less agreed on an agreement with China, but we'll see how it goes, said Trump on Sunday in connection with the meeting with the EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

According to Trump, the tariffs will end up on the lower part of the scale when the US "does not want to harm anyone".

Over the weekend, the US and the EU agreed on American import tariffs of 15 percent on goods from the EU, including cars which previously had higher tariffs.
