On a question about what the tariff for semiconductors will be, Trump responds on his presidential plane:
I will announce it this week.
The tariffs will be in place in the near future, says Trump, according to AFP.
"No exceptions"
The message about which tariffs will apply has been unclear over the weekend.
American tech giants breathed a sigh of relief on Saturday when the US government exempted some electronic products from tariffs against the rest of the world.
But on Sunday, Trump said that "no tariff exemptions" have been announced and that the products in question are covered by existing 20 percent tariffs. According to Trump, the tariffs on electronics, which include smart phones, will be moved to another tariff category.
"We're taking a look at semiconductors and the ENTIRE ELECTRONICS SUPPLY CHAIN", Trump wrote on his platform Truth Social.
Tough blow to Apple
US Trade Minister Howard Lutnick told ABC News earlier on Sunday that the electronic products in question will receive separate tariffs within "a month or two", and that the products will fall under the category of semiconductors.
Lutnick emphasized that the tariffs are intended to encourage semiconductor companies to move their production to the US, and the same applies to pharmaceuticals.
American Apple, which manufactures phones, computers, and tablets in China, has fallen heavily on the stock market since the tariffs against China were raised at the beginning of March and then shock-raised at the beginning of April.
