On Thursday, Trump signed a presidential order imposing tariffs on countries that supply oil to Cuba.
"The regime allies with - and provides support to - numerous hostile countries, transnational terrorist groups, and malign actors hostile to the United States," the White House wrote in a statement.
In recent years, Cuba has bought a large portion of its oil from Venezuela, and Trump has threatened to cut off trade since the U.S. took action against the country's oil industry.
Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez wrote on X that Cuba's population will now be "exposed to extreme living conditions."
Cuba has suffered from fuel shortages in recent years, which has led to widespread power outages.
