Trump Intensifies Criticism of Fed's Powell, Demands Rate Cut

The President of the USA, Donald Trump, is stepping up the attacks on Jerome Powell – the head of the central bank Federal Reserve (Fed) – and is demanding that the interest rate be lowered immediately.

Among other things, Trump calls the Fed chief "Mr Too Late" - Mr Too Late - and a "big loser" in a post on the Truth Social platform.

At the same time, Trump claims that there is currently "practically no" inflation in the US and that, among other things, energy costs are trending downwards.

"With these costs trending so nicely downwards, just as I predicted they would, there can hardly be any inflation, but there may be a SLOWDOWN in the economy if not Mr Too Late, a big loser, lowers interest rates, NOW", Trump writes.

Trump has repeatedly urged Powell to lower the interest rate - but the central bank has taken a cautious stance and has kept the interest rate in the range of 4.25-4.5 percent since December.

Last week, Trump threatened to force Powell to leave his post, despite the president not actually having the authority to do so.

I'm not satisfied with him, he's been told that. And if I want to get rid of him, he'll disappear quickly, believe me, Trump said then.
