After the controversy over a commercial where the Canadian province of Ontario criticizes the American import tariffs, the President of the USA, Donald Trump, strikes back with punitive measures.

”Because of their seriously incorrect representation of facts and hostile behavior, I raise the tariffs against Canada by ten percent in addition to what they pay now”, writes Trump on his social media platform Truth social.

In the commercial, which Ontario is the sender of, a radio speech by former President Ronald Reagan from 1987 is quoted. The President, who was a known free trade friend, criticizes there tariffs for inevitably leading to countermeasures from other countries and wild trade wars.

After the first criticism from Trump against the commercial this week, it was withdrawn, but in his post on the platform, the President claims that it has continued to be shown.

He also calls the Canadian behavior "FRAUD" and claims that Ronald Reagan "LOVED tariffs for national security and economy".
