With the start on November 1, 25-percent import duties on trucks will be introduced, according to the President of the USA, Donald Trump.

”All medium-sized and heavy trucks that come into the USA from other countries will be slapped with tariffs of 25 percent”, Trump writes on Truth Social.

That tariffs of 25 percent on heavy trucks would be introduced has been known since before, but that it will be from November is new. The previous start date, October 1, was postponed after worried American vehicle manufacturers complained.

Swedish truck manufacturer AB Volvo has previously been pointed out as a possible winner in the tariff war, as the company already builds trucks in the USA for the local market. Scania owner Traton, on the other hand, is dependent on factories in Mexico.

Trump announced on September 26 that higher tariffs on, among other things, heavy trucks, furniture and patented medicines were on the way.

Companies that invest in the USA and build factories will be able to be exempted.

Later, the White House clarified that the 100-percent medicine tariffs would not apply to countries that have negotiated new trade agreements with the USA where medicines are included. This means that, for example, the EU is not included in this part. Here, the medicine tariffs are limited to 15 percent, in accordance with the existing framework agreement.
