It was in April 2025 that a 45-year-old woman came to the hospital with a fever. Upon arrival, she had high scores on an assessment tool that measures, among other things, pulse, respiratory rate and body temperature - which indicated serious illness and could mean that the patient had sepsis.
Only later was sepsis suspected, when the woman's blood pressure dropped. About seven hours after arriving at the hospital, the first dose of antibiotics was given, but by then the woman had already developed septic shock, a life-threatening condition.
Later that evening, the woman died.
The incident is now being reported to the Swedish Health and Social Care Inspectorate (Ivo) under Lex Maria as a serious health care injury.
