Since Dahl Tomasson debuted as national team captain against Portugal at the end of March, the national team has played eight international matches.
In his various starting lineups, the Dane has used 27 players – and offered several surprises.
He is not at all afraid to give debutants a chance in a tough situation. Sebastian Nanasi is a fresh example. Against Estonia in October, the 22-year-old made his competitive debut from the start.
He thanked for the trust with two goals and a really sharp performance overall.
Of course, you have good memories, but as I said, they are just memories. It's about adjusting and trying to do it again, says Nanasi.
With Alexander Isak and Emil Forsberg back, it's far from certain that Nanasi will be included from the start against Slovakia at the Strawberry Arena on Saturday.
"No surprises"
Offensively, the competition is razor-sharp.
As it should be in a national team. No surprises. I've shown myself from a good side, I think I'm in pretty good form. I feel I can contribute and I feel ready. Then it's up to the coach, says Nanasi.
Ken Sema knows all about being part of a national team squad and not playing. He debuted in the national team in 2017. Since then, he has loyally come when called – and spent 30 international matches on the bench without playing a single minute.
I've been at the bottom and know that you're never safe. It can go quickly in and quickly out. But it's clear, it feels good right now. I've played quite a lot under Jon Dahl and am grateful for that.
As a left winger, he has played all four matches in the Nations League, three of which from the start. Against Slovakia, he also scored his first national team goal.
"Makes the team stronger"
But sure to play? No. You don't know how he wants to play. He has changed many players and systems, says Sema about his national team captain.
Do you become uncertain or more on your toes because of that?
More on your toes. Previously, you knew more who would play. Now there are more of us who are relevant and many know they have to "step up" to play. It makes everyone want to play and everyone wants to contribute.
It makes the team stronger and we come together more. It's something he has built up and it's really fun, says Ken Sema.
