The actor Tom Cruise has been awarded a fine distinction by the American navy for "his outstanding contributions to the fleet and marine corps", writes Deadline.
At a ceremony in London, the "Top Gun: Maverick" star received the "distinguished public service award", the highest honor that can be awarded to a civilian by the navy.
"His work has inspired generations to serve in our fleet and marine corps", said Carlos Del Toro, minister responsible for the navy at the US Department of Defense.
Besides the two "Top Gun" films, Tom Cruise has portrayed life in the service in the films "Born on the Fourth of July", "A Few Good Men" and in the "Mission: Impossible" films.
