Several of Asia's leading stock exchanges fell in Thursday's opening trade, after the US President Donald Trump announced that he would impose 25-percent tariffs on all vehicles manufactured outside the USA.
In Japan, the key Nikkei 225 had fallen by 1.1 percent at lunchtime, while the broader Topix index had dropped by 0.6. In South Korea, the Kospi index had fallen by 1 percent.
In Hong Kong, however, the Hang Seng index had risen by 1 percent. The same had been done by Shanghai's and Shenzhen's composite index, up 0.3 and 0.4 percent, respectively.
