Among other things, explosions were heard in the capital Kyiv, where deaths are also said to have occurred, according to Mayor Vitalij Klytjko. One person has been confirmed dead. Three people have been injured, two of whom are being treated in hospital, and several fires have broken out around the city.
"Explosions in the capital. Air defense is activated. Stay in shelters!", wrote Klytjko on Telegram.
A building where Ukraine's state media channel is located has been damaged in the attack. The editorial office is described as destroyed, according to a Ukrainian TV channel.

Warning sirens were also heard in the regions of Cherson, Mykolajiv, and Odessa. In Charkiv, a multi-story building was hit by a rocket, according to public service company Suspilne. It is still unclear whether anyone was injured or killed in the attack.
Attacks on western Ukraine led neighboring Poland, together with its allies, to activate its air defense and send up planes on standby, writes the Polish military's operational leadership on X.
"The measures taken are to ensure safety in areas bordering threatened areas", the military announces.
13 of the 23 Russian rockets that attacked Ukraine on Sunday were shot down, as well as several drones.

"The pressure on Russia is still not enough, the daily Russian attacks on Ukraine prove it", writes President Volodymyr Zelenskyj on X and states that the number of attacks is increasing.
Sunday's events occur after Russian attacks on Friday killed several people, including at least nine children, in Kryvyj Rih. The death toll has now risen by one to a total of 20. Another 75 people were injured in the attacks targeting several civilian areas.
