“Several thousand” people who have old phones will be without Bank-id in March next year. Then the app will stop working on older Android and iPhone devices, which TV4 News reported first.

The change applies to phones that have the systems Android 8 or Ios 15 – or older – and that can no longer be updated.

When an operating system on a mobile platform stops receiving security updates, we need to life cycle manage them, i.e. stop supporting them. This is to safeguard the security in the infrastructure and for the user so that their unit cannot be exploited deceitfully, says Andreas Bergqvist, security manager at Bank-id.

Exactly how many are affected is difficult to say.

But it is a number of thousands that will be affected, people who have older phones.

Civil Minister Erik Slottner (KD) writes in a comment to TV4 that work is underway to introduce a national e-identification, which will increase accessibility for users. When it can be in place is not clear.

“The investigation proposes that the national e-identification should not impose any requirements on technical equipment or that it needs to be linked to a bank account”, he writes to TV4.
