Protesters held placards with slogans such as “Belfast stands against racism” and “hate is the only threat on our streets.”
The demonstration was held after the Northern Irish capital was shaken by a brutal assassination attempt, followed by anti-immigration protests that in several places derailed into violence.
The spark for the protests was an incident in which an asylum-seeking Sudanese man is accused of attempting to stab a man to death on a city street.
Northern Ireland minister Hilary Benn said on Thursday that many people are afraid after the violent riots, which have forced residents to leave their homes and where perpetrators have targeted people based on skin color.
