Over 2,700 demonstrations are planned in both large cities and smaller towns in all 50 states. One is held near the president's residence Mar-a-Lago, in Palm Beach on Florida's east coast, where Trump is during the weekend.
Saturday's manifestation gathers around 300 organizations that turn against Trump's regime: "In America, we do not have kings and we are not beaten down by chaos, corruption, and cruelty," it says on the website No Kings. It also states that millions of participants are expected. Among the organizers are civil rights organizations and trade unions.
The demonstrations take place at a time when many in the US are frustrated that the government apparatus has been shut down, as the parties have not been able to agree on a government budget. That President Trump has ordered national guard soldiers to a number of democratically controlled cities to strengthen security, despite local leaders declining, has also aroused strong feelings.
This is America. I do not agree with their policy, but I do not think they do not love this country. I think they are misled. I think they are power-hungry, says Brian Raymann, who carries a large American flag, demonstrating in Washington DC, to AP.
Congress members from President Trump's party, The Republicans, call the protests a "hate America manifestation", writes Axios.
Trump himself dismissed the demonstrators' slogan.
–They refer to me as a king. I am no king, said the president to Fox Business before the protests.
Also in Sweden, Trump-critical demonstrations were arranged on Saturday, among other things in Malmö.
