Just over 97 million kronor – that's the minimum the Swedish Football Association will earn if the men's national team manages to qualify for this summer's World Cup.

All 48 participating teams in the championship in the United States, Canada and Mexico are guaranteed a base salary of 97 million kronor ($10.5 million). This includes a contribution of just under 14 million kronor ($1.5 million), which will cover logistical costs.

In total, the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) will pay out just over six billion kronor ($655 million) in prize money.

This is significantly more than during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, when the prize pool amounted to $440 million, but then 32 teams participated. Now the men's World Cup has been expanded to 48 teams.

The national team that wins the World Cup trophy collects 460 million kronor ($50 million) in total.

Sweden will face Ukraine in a playoff in March. The winner of that match will advance to a qualifying final against the winner of the match between Albania and Poland.
