Next week it's time for the Air Force's traditional Christmas tree flights.

For the first time, a Jas 39 Gripen E will lead one of the flights, the Swedish Armed Forces announce.

The whole thing will be kicked off by the Norrbotten Air Flotilla (F21) together with the Finnish Air Force. On December 8th and 10th, they will fly over parts of northern Sweden and Finland.

At least that's the idea. According to Therese Åkerstedt, head of communications at the Air Force, it doesn't look like anything will happen on December 8 due to the weather. A definitive announcement will be made on Friday. In that case, December 11 will be the reserve day for the flights in the north.

On December 9, Skaraborg's air fleet (F7) will fly over Västra Götaland and Värmland. On December 15 and 17, F7 will fly over "most locations" in southern Sweden, Mälardalen and Stockholm, then with TP 84 Hercules.

On December 16, the Blekinge Air Flotilla (F17), together with the Danish Air Force, is responsible for the flight over Blekinge, southeast Skåne, the Öresund region and Copenhagen.

The routes are planned continuously and adjusted according to prevailing weather conditions. The Air Force publishes the exact program the day before the flight in question.
