Elvira Öberg came straight from a cold to the first individual World Cup competition in biathlon. And shot for victory on the last shot. It was a bit frustrating that victory was within reach there on the last one, says Öberg, whose miss meant she finished eighth.

Big sister Hanna Öberg was the best Swede in the distance race in Östersund in fifth place. She was just over half a minute behind the top duo Dorothea Wierer and the runner-up Sonja Leinamo.

She was also one shot away from a podium finish. For both Öberg sisters, she shot three shots in the 15-kilometer race, where you shoot four times and each shot gives you an extra minute.

Hanna Öberg missed twice in the first shot.

"I would have liked to have done those two shots differently, I screwed up and screwed back up and wasn't as determined as I wanted to be. But I take with me that I finished well, the two final zeros were important," she tells SVT.

“Approved start”

Elvira Öberg did not know that she was involved in the battle for victory in the final standing shooting.

I thought I couldn't shoot for the victory with two shots in the distance.

She is still happy with both the shooting and, above all, the skiing. She had the third best skiing time.

"I'm holding my skis together and doing a lot of good things. I had good skis and could ski relaxed and technically. It was an acceptable start," says Elvira Öberg, who missed the weekend's opening relays due to a cold.

Anna Magnusson was the best shooter of the Swedes, with two misses. She finished ninth.

Felt sick – won

Italian Dorothea Wierer, who is retiring after the Olympics on home soil, took her 17th World Cup victory.

"I think I can still win, I'm one of the oldest," the 35-year-old tells SVT.

I didn't know if I was going to start, I felt a little sick this morning and hadn't slept very well. But I'm glad I did.

Wierer won by three tenths of a second ahead of 23-year-old Finn Sonja Leinamo, who took her first podium finish. Before Tuesday, she had not finished better than eighth in an individual World Cup race.
