Two straight failures in the first round in French Val d'Isère and Italian Alta Badia in December. Same story in Wednesday's evening slalom in Madonna di Campiglio, Italy.
Now Kristoffer Jakobsen made it to the second slalom round with the 15th time, but more than halfway into the fog in Swiss Adelboden, the 30-year-old got problems. He made it to the finish, but had to settle for a 22nd place.
Best of all was for a while Lucas Pinheiro Braathen. The Norwegian, who after a year's break made a comeback, but now competes for his mother's homeland Brazil.
He took over the lead after a strong second round, but even though Clément Noël was close to going out, the Frenchman won with just two hundredths of a second ahead of second-placed Pinheiro Braathen. It was Noël's third slalom victory in the World Cup this season.
Third was Norwegian Henrik Kristoffersen, who was 14 hundredths from first place.
Jakobsen was 2.63 seconds behind Noël. The Swedish slalom veteran started the World Cup season by finishing eleventh in Finnish Levi in November and shortly after took his fourth career podium when he finished second in Gurgl, Austria.
