Canadian swimming star Penny Oleksiak has been banned for two years for violating anti-doping rules on whereabouts reporting. The 25-year-old has accepted the suspension.

Penny Oleksiak is Canada's most successful female Olympian with one gold, two silver and four bronze.

Already this summer, it became known that she was being investigated for violating the rules that require athletes to inform anti-doping organizations of their whereabouts.

Oleksiak chose not to compete at the World Championships in Singapore while an investigation is ongoing. She is now suspended for two years by the International Testing Agency (ITA), a penalty that both Oleksiak and the Canadian Swimming Federation have accepted.

"While we accept Penny's explanation that it was an unintentional error, and that she has not used prohibited substances, anti-doping rules exist to ensure a level playing field for athletes," said Canadian Swimming Director Suzanne Paulins.

The suspension runs until July 14, 2027.
