After the scandalous match between Hammarby and Djurgården, Minister for Health and Sports Jakob Forssmed (KD) met with representatives from football, including Fredrik Reinfeldt, chairman of the Swedish Football Association.
We from the government side will continue to keep the pressure up in this matter. For this is football's must-win match, says Forssmed after the meeting.
"Serious threat"
According to the police's match report, 126 pyrotechnic fireworks were fired during the derby, 18 of which were so-called bangers, reports SVT Stockholm. A coordinated and deliberate action by the Djurgården supporters to influence the match result, according to Fredrik Reinfeldt.
This is a serious threat to Swedish football if we get that kind of disorder, says Reinfeldt after the meeting with the government.
The match was interrupted and the police later decided to dissolve the event. The day after, the match was played to the end without an audience.
The Minister for Health and Sports wants more violent perpetrators to be stopped from entering the arenas and highlights that Swedish ice hockey clubs seem to be acting harder on issuing so-called organizer bans to supporters.
Hockey and football are not acting quite synchronously when it comes to organizer bans. It is obvious that they (in football) can do more, says Jakob Forssmed.
In ice hockey, it is also common for the Stockholm derby to be played without away supporters present. The same path has been taken in Danish football regarding the derbies in Copenhagen.
I hope we don't end up there, but then it requires that more people do more when it comes to not allowing those who engage in disorder and violence on Swedish stands to be present, says Jakob Forssmed.
Something similar within Swedish football was not discussed during the meeting, according to Reinfeldt.
Better visitor control?
The police have previously stated that the clubs' visitor control is inadequate, which Forssmed also believes.
The Swedish Football Association is looking into how visitor control can be improved, but raising, for example, the education requirements for those who are to conduct visitor control at the matches is a resource issue for the clubs.
It's hard to get hold of everyone who can perform correct visitor control. It's an aspect that has been put forward by several clubs, which we must take into account, says Fredrik Reinfeldt.
