The idea was to travel on the government plane, but the trip was cancelled for technical reasons. Instead of rebooking a regular flight, which, according to DN, would have cost 17,000 kronor for the Speaker and two officials, the Armed Forces, on the Riksdag's advice, rented a private plane.
Andreas Norlén's wife and son, as well as a delegation from the Japanese parliament, were on the trip. The Riksdag's explanation for the expensive trip is that they had previously invited the Japanese to travel together to Geneva.
Norlén tells DN that it would have been "clearly inappropriate" to cancel the trip at such short notice given the relationship with the Japanese parliament.
