New sanctions against Russia are intended to stop Russian fossil gas from reaching Sweden.
But how long it will take before it actually happens is unclear.
The important thing is that the sanctions decision has now been made, says Foreign Minister Tobias Billström (M).
Ever since Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine began in 2022, tankers carrying liquid Russian natural gas (LNG) have arrived at Swedish ports, primarily Nynäshamn.
Every purchase is blood money for Russian President Putin's war chest, Energy and Business Minister Ebba Busch (KD) has previously said.
Recently, the EU adopted a new sanctions package against Russia, with Sweden driving the effort. The package involves an import ban on Russian gas imported via terminals not connected to the EU's common gas network.
This is a clear message from the Swedish government to the Swedish public that we have now resolved this issue, says Tobias Billström at the government's summer gathering on Thursday.
Swedish importers must cancel their existing contracts with Russia.
But when the last gas tanker will arrive, neither he nor Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) can say.
I cannot specify an exact date, the important thing is that the sanctions decision has now been made for this import of LNG via Swedish terminals, says Billström.
The import ban is affected by when contracts expire that private companies have signed.
This is a very good question, I don't know. I cannot set a date for this, Kristersson responds to the question of whether he knows when the last gas tanker will arrive.
