Permits already granted for certain semi-automatic weapons for hunting will continue to be valid, but they will be redeemable voluntarily for a period of time against compensation equivalent to the full market value.

It is part of the bill that the government hammered out today.

Since August 1, new permits for certain semi-automatic weapons, such as the AR-15, for hunting have no longer been granted. This is a consequence of the debate following the mass shooting in Örebro.

The government's legislative council's referral also means other changes to the Weapons Act. Five-year permits for target shooting will be abolished. It will also become easier to store weapons in a place other than the owner's home.

The legal changes will apply from May 1. The government also intends to return this spring with a new weapons regulation that will significantly expand the weapons wardrobe.
