The Getty Villa and its collections of 44,000 different objects, many of which are Roman, Greek, and Etruscan, could be saved from the devastating Los Angeles fire in the Pacific Palisades district, writes LA Times.
The staff worked first to rescue the objects from smoke damage. At the same time, reports came in that a wall at the restaurant was on fire, as well as plantings.
The low vegetation is no longer there, but the museum and collections remain. However, the head of operations, Kathrine F Fleming, says to LA Times that she is too superstitious to dare say that the museum is completely out of danger.
