Perry Bamonte, guitarist and keyboardist for The Cure, has died after a short illness. The band writes on their website.

"Quiet, intense, intuitive, reliable and incredibly creative - 'Teddy' was a warm and vital part of The Cure's history," the statement reads.

Perry Bamonte was born in London in 1960 and began touring with The Cure and Depeche Mode in 1984, when his younger brother Daryl was working as a tour manager. When keyboardist Roger O'Donnell left The Cure in 1990, Bamonte, who had been filling in for a while, became a full member of the band.

He played guitar, six-string bass and keyboards on songs such as "The Wish", "Wild Mood Swings" and "Bloodflowers" and performed live over 400 times with the band until 2004.

He returned to The Cure in 2022 and played another 90 concerts until his death.

"Our thoughts and condolences go out to his entire family. He will be deeply missed," the other band members write.

The Cure are booked to play at Way Out West in Gothenburg this summer.
