Malmö FF's internal investigation into Pontus Jansson is complete.
The decision: The star is stripped of the captain's armband.
Jansson features in a group chat in a criminal investigation linked to Malmö FF supporters. The footballer is not suspected of a crime, but the club decided to investigate the situation internally.
The internal investigation, now complete, means the 33-year-old will not be captain for the time being, the club writes in a press release.
"Following the completion of the internal investigation, Malmö FF takes a very serious view of the context in which Pontus Jansson was involved," the club writes further.
"Pontus Jansson has been involved in discussions and participated in conversations that are incompatible with either the association's values or code of conduct."
In the press release, MFF writes that the club "has chosen to take several disciplinary measures" and that "Pontus Jansson will return to full ordinary activities from when Malmö FF's men's team reassembles after the summer break".
The group chat features in a preliminary investigation into a hooligan brawl in Stockholm last year. Earlier in June, charges were brought against twelve people for violent rioting.
The centre-back chose to inform Malmö FF himself when it came to his attention. He was not allowed to play the final Allsvenskan match of the spring season against Brommapojkarna.
