The decision has been made by the Christian Democrats' party congress and means that the party is reformulating a sentence in the election platform about avoiding forming a government with the parties V and SD, which are ideologically far from the Christian Democrats' ideology.
One should not exclude any party, but we need to be ideologically and politically close to each other, says Erik Nilsson (KD), deputy party secretary.
According to Nilsson, the paragraph is now reformulated to focus more on Christian democratic values and politics.
The wording does not mean that we are saying in advance that we will sit in government with SD. What is being said is that we do not have any negotiation restrictions, says a source to Aftonbladet, which was the first to report on the matter.
"Regrettable"
The party board has since December wanted to strike out the formulation, according to sources to Svenska Dagbladet, and the youth association KDU has previously wanted to open up for cooperation.
There was strong support for this within the party, says a source within the party to Aftonbladet.
The Liberals' party secretary Jakob Olofsgård is critical of the Christian Democrats' decision:
"It is regrettable that the Christian Democrats are opening up for sitting in government with the Sweden Democrats. The Liberals' decision stands firm. We will not sit in government with SD and we will not allow a government where SD is included", he writes in a comment.
No Red Lines
Deputy party secretary Erik Nilsson says that the Christian Democrats are not a party that comes with "dogmatic ultimatums".
Red lines and drawing lines in the sand and other things, that's for other parties to do.
Could you have sat in government with SD or V?
We are very pleased and very happy about the policy we represent.
But could you have sat in government with all the Riksdag parties?
The most important thing for us is that we get as much impact as possible for Christian democratic policy and Christian democratic values.
