It is a decrease of 59 percent compared to the same month last year and goes against the trend of electric car sales in general in Germany, which increased by 54 percent in January compared to a year earlier, reports the news agency Bloomberg.
Lately, Tesla's CEO Elon Musk – now also a close adviser to the President of the USA, Donald Trump – has faced heavy criticism in Europe. It concerns Musk's flirtation with far-right parties – not least with the German AFD, ahead of the election in the country on February 23.
Even a greeting where Musk stood with his arm raised in a lectern during Trump's inauguration in Washington in January has raised many questions.
Also in France and the UK, Tesla has had it tough, with sales falls of 63 and 12 percent respectively in January, according to Bloomberg.
Tesla's share had fallen 2.6 percent after nearly two hours of trading on the New York Stock Exchange on Wednesday.
